What Do You Want?
Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you want?"John 1:38-39
They said, "Rabbi (which means teacher), where are you staying?"
"Come," he replied, "and you will see."
A Thought From the Pastor
The first words of Jesus may be important. In fact, very important. Our journey with Jesus must start with an honest assessment of “what do we want”. Too many times our approach to having a relationship with Jesus is centered on what we want in the “here and now.” Jesus is calling us into relationship – a relationship which is not confined to this earthly existence. He wants us to desire something greater than the material, something deeper than fleeting emotional highs, something with meaning and purpose – something that will last!!
Jesus came to give us life and life to the full (John 10:10). The thief comes to steal this from us.
Experiencing the springs of life that provide water which quenches our thirsts begins with taking a step each day toward Jesus. We must learn to put two feet on the ground each morning, look toward heaven, and say, “Our father in Heaven, holy is your name. Your Kingdom come Your will be done.” With our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, we can experience a life-changing journey. As we practice the presence of God in our lives (i.e., staying in conversation with God throughout the entire day) the journey takes on a new meaning – we have purpose, we have understanding, we have peace. It’s a peace that surpasses all human understanding.
Jesus is asking, “What do you want?” Everyday he continues to also say, “Come and see.”
Bonfire Nights
Join us for a cozy bonfire gathering at the Rellingers’ on Friday, August 21st, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. It’s the perfect opportunity to relax, unwind, and enjoy the warm glow of the fire under the starlit sky (I know, pretty flowery).
