The Hope of Salvation
The Armor of GodEphesians 6: 10 - 18
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
A Thought From the Pastor
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” – Romans 12:2
I have spent a majority of my professional career attempting to teaching physics to a group of students who didn’t know much about the subject or what they knew was generally incorrect or wrong. It was daunting at times to transform their minds and will to learn and grow in this subject matter. The secret to learning physics was humility, working in groups, unlearning misconcpetions , and overcoming the fear of being wrong. I often wished that students would come into my classroom with no previous knowledge of physics so that we didn’t have to battle the process of unlearning to learn. I think the same could be said about our spiritual journey with God and why the helmet of salvation is such an important aspect of the armor of God. We so often have to change our minds and thinking to align with God’s will and his plan for us.
Your mind is the ultimate battlefield. It is where the enemy whispers lies like, “You’ll never be good enough,” or “God has abandoned you in this struggle.” Without protection, these doubts can spiral into anxiety, depression, and spiritual defeat. When Paul wrote about the armor of God, he intentionally linked salvation to the head. The helmet of salvation is the confident assurance that you belong to God. It is the reality that your past is forgiven, your present is secure, and your future is eternally sealed in Him. When we put on this helmet, we actively filter our circumstances through the lens of God’s grace.
Guarding your mind isn’t about emptying your thoughts; it is about taking them captive. It requires actively replacing the world’s noise with the truth of scripture. When a destructive thought enters, we must evaluate it against the truth of our salvation. Is this thought pushing me toward fear, or pointing me to the peace and victory of Christ?
When you fasten the helmet of salvation, you are choosing to wear the mind of Christ. You are rejecting the lies of condemnation and walking in the unshakeable hope that your ultimate rescue is already secured.
